Carly and Dalton’s wedding was the first time I really got that feeling of “Yes, this is what I want to do for a living, capture real moments between loved ones and create something beautiful.” They had a beautiful wedding at Debbie’s Celebration Barn and as an Iowa wedding photographer, this place was absolutely adorable! […]

When Kayla reached out to me about taking some Family portraits, I was excited to learn that she has young children! Kids are always fun to photograph because they are unpredictable and bound to do something cute! I was super excited that they wanted to take photos in downtown Des Moines, this is my favorite […]

Finding My Brand Hello there, I’m Kirstie, Des Moines Iowa Wedding Photographer and Portrait Photographer. Website creating has been an area that I love to tinker with and continually work on. Sunday evening I had the pleasure to meet Pooja and her husband Rakesh at waterworks park for a maternity session. It was a few days prior when I had gotten a phone call around 9:40, that I almost didn’t answer because of a California caller I.D. number, but I am super glad I did!

This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart! Other photographer will know exactly what I am talking about, but if you don’t let me give you the down low.

Many photographers are doing “unposed” or strictly documentary styles of shooting. This is when there is very little to no direction given, and they let you interact with each other. They might ask you to whisper something silly in your ladies ear to make her laugh but the idea is to have organic interaction and just let you do you.

Posing is Not Dead! | Why I utilize posed portraits in an unposed market | Iowa Wedding Photographer

Holly and Frank are one of the neatest couples I have ever met! They have a super chill-cool vibe about them, and they enjoyed an intimate wedding with their closest friends and family.  They got married at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, a beautiful church indeed!!! I wish these two the best marriage full of happiness, love and plenty of #moodmusic!

Back in April, I attended a photography workshop hosted by Ivory + Bliss. It was such an amazing time, and I was blown away with the beautiful details they had! One of the things that I learned from this experience is that styling matters. Details matter. As a photographer who focuses on portraits, my […]

The day had finally arrived and it couldn’t have been any better!

On arrival the guys were already dressed and ready to go! So we did some detail shots and got their photos taken. After all the portraits were taken, we were about 2 hours ahead of schedule so there was plenty of time to relax and cool off from the humid Iowa air! We also got some more bride and groom portraits which are my favorite and Chrissy and James are pros at getting their photo taken now! The thing I love most is the real love and emotion they share, it’s so sweet and I am so happy for them!

A big component to having a successful engagement session is your wardrobe! This is where you can show personal style, and also let you and your love really pop! The wrong outfits can actually distract from you being the focus! Remember, these are suggestions and style is always subjective, I have found success with these style tips!

I had so much fun getting to know Holly and Frank tonight!  We braved the Iowa heat, which wasn’t too bad since we had a breeze.  We started out at waterworks park where we took a few shots by the white barn and some nearby trees. One thing about waterworks is there is always sure to be other photographer, and this one was also shooting and engagement session, but they had their boom box going with some “mood music” haha! It was kinda funny, and awkward but made for a great laughing point.   I might have to bring some mood music to Holly and Franks wedding portraits to see what they think of this new trend!
